| De Portretjes van Saskia |
These eight portrets of Saskia are oil on Canvas 3,2x4,4 cm. The sepia-tinted oil paintings are a follow-up on the Black and White; " 8 portrets of Rembrandt". In the 'portrets of Rembrandt' Rembrandt has been painted 'in motion'. . "The portrets of Sakia" are lighter of colour to emphasis the feminine. Saskia was the only woman who Rembrandt married and his greatest love. Even the los of three children could not break there happy marriage. During Rembrandts biggest assignment, 'The Nightwatch' Sakia died of tuberculosis. Rembrandt was devastated by her death and never really recovered from this drama. In this serie of 8 portrets, Saskia is painted older, as if she never died, to spare Rembrandt his big sorrow. You can see Sakia in eight sweet posses in which she's happy, sad or impatient to see her big love Rembrandt and say to him: "Sweetheart, i'm still alive!" |
